For a long time, comprehensive health and accident insurance coverage was a major demand of Non-Resident Keralites. NORKA Care, introduced by the Government of Kerala through NORKA Roots, is the realization of this vision, raised at platforms including the Loka Kerala Sabha. It reflects the State Government’s strong commitment to the safety and welfare of Malayali expatriates worldwide.

About the Scheme

NORKA Care provides comprehensive health and accident insurance coverage for NRKs living abroad, within other Indian states, and for their families.

 

Eligibility

NRKs with a valid NORKA Pravasi ID Card
Kerala students studying abroad with a NORKA Student ID Card
NRKs residing in other Indian states with an NRK ID Card

Health Insurance – Group Personal Accident Mediclaim Policy

Coverage: ₹5,00,000 (with illness-specific sub-limits)
₹10 lakh Group Personal Accident Coverage

 

Premium (including GST):

Family Floater: Spouse + 2 children (up to 25 years) – ₹13,411
Individual (18–70 years): ₹8,101
Additional child (below 25 years): ₹4,130
Policy Term: 1 year (renewable)

 

Coverage:

Death: 100% of sum insured + Repatriation

Within India: ₹25,000

Outside India: ₹50,000

Permanent/total disability: 100% coverage

Permanent/partial disability: As per policy schedule

HOW TO REGISTER


Individual Registration:


Visit norkaroots.kerala.gov.in or use the NORKA mobile app (Android & iOS).


Group Registration:


Through NORKA-approved Pravasi organizations.


Non-approved associations will be issued a temporary ID number for mass enrollment.

 


Corporate Clients:


Special registration facility for companies employing a large Malayalee population abroad.

* What is the validity of Norka ID Cards?
Norka ID cards (Pravasi, NRK & Student ID cards) are valid for 3 years. For more details pls visit https://www.norkaroots.kerala.gov.in/
* Can I register for a NORKA ID in bulk (e.g., via NRK associations)?
Yes. Associations can contact NORKA for a temporary user ID & password for bulk registration.
* Who is the insurance provider for Norka Care ?
The New India Assurance Company Ltd.
* What is the coverage amount (Sum Insured)?
₹5,00,000 per family per year.
* What will be the premium amount for the scheme?
The premium amount for the scheme is ₹13,411 for a 4-member family, ₹8,101 for an individual (self), and ₹4,130 for each additional child. (can add 3 additional children)
* Can I increase the Sum Insured (SI)?
There is no option to increase the policy sum insured (SI) this year.
* Is there a top-up or add-on option available?
Currently not available.
* Are premium payments accepted in installments?
No
* Will this policy continue if I lose my job but retain my NORKA ID?
Yes, coverage will continue until renewal. Valid NORKA ID is required at renewal.
* Is NORKA ID mandatory for all family members to enroll in Norka care scheme.?
No. Only the primary applicant needs a NORKA ID. Family members can be added under family coverage.
* Can I still enroll after the enrollment window closes?
No. This is a one-time opportunity for existing NRKs. New NRKS may enroll when they become Norka ID card holder.
* What expenses are covered under this policy?
Covers:  In-patient hospitalization  Pre-hospitalization (30 days) Post-hospitalization (60 days, up to ₹5,000)  Emergency & planned admissions  Cancer & dialysis treatment  Cataract (₹30,000/eye)  Organ transplant (excluding cost of organ)  Ayurvedic treatment - (up to ₹50,000/year, on IP & doctor's advice)  Ambulance charges - - (₹2,000/year)  Room rent - (₹5,000/day), ICU (₹10,000/day)
* Is maternity covered?
No, maternity is not covered under this policy; however, new born will be covered. If any complications arise after discharge from the hospital following delivery, treatment for the condition will be covered in the next admission.
* Are parents covered?
No. Parents are not covered.
* Are children above 25 covered?
Not under family floater. They can take a separate policy if they hold a valid NORKA ID card.
* How many children can be added to a family policy?
Up to 2 children (≤25 years) included. Additional 3 children can be added with extra premium.
* Is cancer treatment covered?
Yes, as per policy terms and conditions.
* Is dialysis covered?
Yes, covered post-discharge under IPD.
* Is cataract surgery covered?
Yes. Up to ₹30,000 per eye.
* Is organ transplant covered?
Yes, hospital expenses (up to 5 lakhs) excluding organ costs.
* Is Ayurvedic treatment covered?
Yes, up to ₹50,000 if there is a doctor's recommendation based on IPD.
* Does the policy cover treatment outside India ?
No. Coverage is limited to treatment within India only.
* Dental Coverage - Does the policy include dental treatment coverage? If so, could you outline the types of treatments covered?
Yes, Only for Accidental treatment on IPD basis.
* Whether outpatient treatments and day care procedures are included?
Yes, Can claim 30 days Pre Hospitalization and 60 days post hospitalization. Rs 5000 per claim can be reimbursed after discharge.
* Whether a no-claim bonus or similar benefit is available for claim-free years.
No. As it is GMC policy no individual claim loading or bonus.
* How do I handle planned hospitalization?
Must obtain pre-authorization via:  Toll-free number  Email  Direct contact  Hospital insurance desk
* What is the process for emergency admission?
Hospital will coordinate with insurance. Coverage is as per SI and policy terms.
* Can I use any hospital?
Treatment is available in Network hospitals (16000+). List is available on App/Website.
* Is there a co-payment?
No co-pay.
* Is there a waiting period before claiming?
No. Even pre-existing conditions are covered from day one.(from November 1st onwards)
* Can I choose any hospital room?
Yes, within the room rent limit of ₹5,000/day and ICU ₹10,000/day.
* What is the procedure for reimbursement?
Submit within 30 days of discharge with the following documents: I. Reimbursement claim form (from NORKA Care App) II. Hospital bills & receipts (originals) III. Discharge summary IV. Prescriptions V. Diagnostic reports VI. Bank details for refund VII. Details on NORKA Care App/Website
* Can I claim from two policies if I have another insurance?
Yes. Use cashless on one, then claim excess via reimbursement under the second. A balance transfer letter is needed from the first insurer.
* What is the coverage under Personal Accident Insurance?
₹10,00,000 for Accidental Death (worldwide).
* Is GPA coverage applicable to all family members?
No. Only to the NORKA card holder.
* Is any other coverage available abroad besides accidental death?
No. Only accidental death is covered worldwide.
* Is ambulance cost covered?
Yes, up to ₹2,000/year.
* Is body repatriation covered?
Yes.Only for policy holder, who dies due to accidentand will be paid to nominee: Within India: ₹25,000 Outside India: ₹50,000
* Is there a No-Claim Bonus (NCB)?
No. As this is a Group Mediclaim (GMC) policy, NCB is not applicable.
* Will renewal be available via mobile app/website?
Yes, via NORKA Care App/Website or nearest service centres.
